Crews are putting the finishing touches on Boulder’s newest hotel, Moxy Boulder, which is slated to officially open on May 23.

The brand new hotel is located on University Hill at 1253 Pleasant Street. Nestled among sorority houses, it’s situated across the street from Koenig Alumni Center and the core of the University of Colorado Boulder campus. It’s the first new hotel to open in town since 2018.

The hotel is a collaboration between The Nichols Partnership, a Front Range developer, and BMC Investments, a real estate investment firm.

“Launching the Moxy Boulder hotel near the University of Colorado is a meaningful 9-year endeavor for The Nichols Partnership and BMC Investments, says Randy Nichols, CEO of The Nichols Partnership. “This project is an excellent example of our strategy to target A+ locations, with high barriers to entry and quantifiable demand generators. We are excited to be partnering with Vision Hospitality Group to thrill guests with a well-designed hotel and experiential service in the heart of Boulder and the University of Colorado.”

It’s a Moxy Hotel, which is part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Distinctive Select portfolio. The Moxy is a millennial-focused brand that debuted in September 2014 and aims to appeal to both locals and adventure-seeking travelers. It’s designed to be a hub for the city and the university community.

The team behind the hotel expects it to attract prospective students and parents, visiting professors, traveling sports teams, tech professionals or anyone visiting Boulder for vacation.

When it opens later this month, the Moxy Boulder will boast 189 guest rooms, plus 5,300 square feet of indoor and outdoor space that can be used for events and gatherings. The property will also have a state-of-the-art fitness center and a playful lobby featuring a Moxy Bar and lounge area. When guests arrive, they’ll be greeted with a “Got Moxy” cocktail or mocktail at check-in, as well as bites from the Culinary Creative Group.

In addition, the property will have a walk-through courtyard that’s open to the public, accompanied by 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The outdoor space will have a loungey vibe with comfortable seating and firepits.

Locals and visitors will want to check out the two eateries on the ground floor, too: Mister Oso and Aviano Coffee.

Mister Oso, which was recently recognized by the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand, first opened in Denver’s River North Arts District (RiNo) in 2019. It also has another location in Wash Park in Denver. The casual eatery serves rotating taco dishes, Peruvian ceviche, crudo, agave-spirits cocktails and non-alcoholic agua frescas, among other tasty fare.

Aviano Coffee, meanwhile, has two locations in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood. The coffee shop serves the Intelligentsia, Kilogram and Askinosie brands.

Both concepts come from the Culinary Creative Group.

Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Vision Hospitality Group will manage the hotel.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with The Nichols Partnership and BMC Investments on another Moxy project in this highly desirable location,” says Mitch Patel, president and CEO of Vision Hospitality Group. “The Moxy Hotel is poised to be a beacon of creativity and style, reflecting Vision’s commitment to excellence in every facet of hospitality. We’re honored to bring this unique experience to Boulder.”

Another new hotel, The Limelight Hotel Boulder, is also under construction on University Hill. It’s slated to open in the summer of 2025 and will feature 250 rooms and a 15,000-square-foot ballroom. The new hotel and conference center is a partnership between Aspen Hospitality and the university.
