No passport? No problem. Denmark and Colorado may be nearly 5,000 miles apart. But, now, you can immerse yourself in Danish-inspired interior decor right here in Boulder.

Hytte & Co. is the city’s newest home goods shop, bringing a touch of Scandinavia to 845 Walnut Street. It’s the sister store to Süti & Co., the beloved café that’s been operating at 2031 16th Street since the fall of 2022.

Both small businesses are helmed by Andrea Uzarowski, a chef and entrepreneur who hails from Copenhagen, Denmark. Uzarowski, who also owns the Fresh Food Further catering company, has more than two decades of experience in food and hospitality, having trained in Michelin starred kitchens throughout Europe.

Uzarowski draws inspiration from the Danish language for both businesses: The word “süti” is a type of a Danish-style shortbread, while “hytte” means “cottage”—often, a holiday cabin or a seasonal escape to the mountains, the woods or the sea.

“At all of our concepts, we are inspired by the warmth, ritual and simple beauty of Copenhagen—offering an escape, without needing a boarding pass,” she says.

At Hytte & Co., which opened in October, Uzarowski has curated a collection of home goods ranging from custom furniture to collectible ceramics, as well as evergreen essentials. The goal is to offer modern heirlooms for elevated living.

In a world of fast fashion, mass-produced everything and a “more is more” mentality, Uzarowski wants shoppers to instead slow down, be intentional and invest in quality pieces that will stand the test of time. She believes that filling a home with beautiful, lovingly handcrafted items is a form of self-care.

“We believe that objects crafted with intention bring a sense of soulfulness to each space,” she says.

Uzarowski believes the new store will also help fill a gap in the design market—a need for a slower, more personal approach to interiors.

“While there is certainly a time and a place for hiring a professional designer, we also believe there is value in living into a home, taking time to discover how you use each room and gradually layering in pieces that bring a sense of meaning to those spaces,” she writes in a recent newsletter.

Hytte & Co. works with like-minded, independent makers who bring a deep level of skill and passion to their work, ranging from small woman-owned companies to solo woodworkers.

“It’s important to us that we showcase these exceptional individuals—some have no other distributor in Colorado or the U.S. than our shop,” she says. “Connecting our customers with these entrepreneurs and artisans brings a unique sense of meaning to our merchandising strategy.”

The shopping experience itself is meant to be low-stress, serene and comfortable. It helps that Hytte & Co. is located in a small, cozy, historic cottage house in downtown Boulder—just like Süti & Co.

The space is divided into uniquely curated and artfully staged rooms, each with its own theme and focus: Gather, Revel, Cradle, Rest and Inspire.

“Our goal with this store is to ease the day-to-day pressures of our customers and offer a shopping experience that feels like home,” she says.

Whether you’re shopping for your own home or searching for the perfect gift for a wedding, baby registry or housewarming, the team at Hytte & Co. invites you to spend a few cozy moments with them.

The store has several upcoming events on the calendar, perfect for stopping in to check out the offerings. On November 29, it’s hosting a “Small Business Saturday Holiday Open House: Hygge for the Holidays” event, inviting guests to enjoy festive bites and drinks from Süti & Co. while exploring the store. Free gift wrapping will also be available.

Then, on the weekend of December 13-14, Hytte & Co. is hosting “The Art of Hygge Gifting: A Room-by-Room Celebration.” This holiday shopping event, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is the perfect opportunity to cross a few people off your gift list while also treating yourself to a moment of cozy calm amid the hustle and bustle.
