Ghost Box Pizza Coming to Downtown Lafayette

Downtown Lafayette is getting a new pizza joint: Ghost Box Pizza, from the team behind Acreage by Stem Ciders, is opening this winter at 103 S. Public Road.

The new pizzeria arose from the pandemic, when Acreage pivoted and began offering prepared meals and local goods via its Acreage Provisions marketplace. At the same time, the cidery created two new pop-up concepts, Ghost Box Pizza and Diggity Street Eats. The pizzeria pop-up was so popular that Acreage’s patrons began “following the ghost” to determine when they would be able to eat some of the delicious Detroit-style pizza next.

“Loosely based on Ghost Box Pizza’s origin as a ghost kitchen out of Acreage, the name came to me immediately when creating the brand’s own personality to fly down to its new home in downtown Lafayette,” said Courtney O’Rourke, vice president of marketing. “The design came next and very quickly developed into the fun and playful Ghost Box story that it is today. It’s been a delight to see the community play along, and we’re thankful for them waiting ever-so-patiently.”

The new Lafayette pizzeria, decorated by Samari Design, will offer 7,065 square feet of space with room for up to 115 diners. There’s a main dining room, a bar, a patio and a basement lounge (with a secondary bar) with arcade games.

“Working closely with the visionaries at Stem and Acreage, we set out with the goal of creating a backdrop for the magic of the pizza. Layered in the simplicity like that of an old home, we created a bright, inviting space rooted in color with a little bit of mystery that’s yet to be revealed,” said Sara Blette, an interior designer with Samari Design. “The key design elements we wanted to highlight (fun, bold, bright) brought forth a welcoming space that we hope feels like home to the Lafayette community. A place to bring your family, your first date, your neighbor.”

The main draw will be Detroit-style and wood-fired pizzas, but Ghost Box will also offer salads, sandwiches, flatbreads and appetizers, plus a full kids’ menu for little ones. Pizza flavors will range from Potato & Rosemary (with mozzarella, pecorino, Stracciatella and garlic oil) to Mortadella & Melted Onion (with goat cheese, mozzarella and garlic oil) to a classic Margherita (with tomato, mozzarella, basil and oregano). There will also be vegan and gluten-free options.

Behind the bar, bartenders will be slinging craft cocktails, local beers, house wines and ciders from Stem Ciders.

“Over the past 18 months, we have seen, heard, and felt the need for community and comfort, and we are so excited to bring Ghost Box Pizza to the heart of Lafayette,” said Sarah Ingraham, director of restaurant operations. “We have an amazing local chef, Cody Scott, who’s been making pizzas his entire life. There’s been a void in Lafayette in the sit-down, family-friendly pizza spots, and we are here to provide that space for our town—we know the community is ready and waiting.”
