Over three years (and beyond), the Museum will employ a community-centered process and develop an exhibit and educational curricula to address the underrepresentation of Black histories in Colorado.

The program will collect original oral histories and research, consolidate research data and make it publicly available, and host a series of programs about race.

This project will give Coloradans a more inclusive understanding of the state’s history by illuminating the stories of Black Coloradans, help the local community examine attitudes about and acknowledge the experience of Black people in Colorado, and ultimately serve as a launching pad for community dialogue and a basis for community action.

Proclaiming Colorado’s Black History will give Coloradans and all visitors an inclusive understanding of the state’s history by illuminating the stories of Black Coloradans who have lived in this area for the past two centuries. Black to the Future Program-

4:00 pm: Visit Proclaiming Colorado’s Black History
discover the history of Black Coloradans from 1840 to today through a
colorful, interactive exhibit and grab a drink and food on our rooftop.

5:00-6:00 pm: Black to the Future Lecture with Adam Bradley.The
Museum of Boulder is contributing to ongoing efforts across the county
to amplify Black voices in the stories we tell about our nation’s
history. Join us for a conversation with Adam Bradley, a member of the
“Proclaiming” advisory council and a professor of English & African
American History at UCL, as he shares experiences as a scholar, writer
and curator working with the New York Times, the Smithsonian’s Museum of
African American and Culture, the Grammy Museum, the National Park
Service, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and other
organizations across the nation.

6:30-8:00 pm: Rooftop concert / party with JJ Brown’s Raw Soul Groove Band. Put on your dancing shoes and join us on the roof for some funky grooves! (weather permitting)

Evening fare in the Courtyard: Sample
a typical early evening snack plate in a poetic Iranian setting . This
area will feature locally made sun shape Turmeric and Cumin bread with
accompaniments

A ritual
table will be set up in the Lobby beginning a week before the event –
come in to learn more about the holiday before attending the
celebration!

History of Mehregan

In
Persian culture, Mehergan is a time to honor love and friendship and
the harvest, a time to renew our commitments to each other and our
community, a time to honor justice and balance.

During
pre-Islamic and early Islamic Iran, Mehrgān was celebrated with the same
magnificence and pageantry as Nowruz. It was customary for people to
send or give their king, and each other, gifts. Rich people usually gave
gold and silver coins, heroes and warriors gave horses while others
gave gifts according to their financial power and ability, even as
simple as an apple. Those fortunate enough would help the poor with
gifts.

Golden
Hour is best spent with a drink in hand, a friend or date by your side,
good tunes flowing through your bones, and a delicious rooftop view of
Boulder.

Vapor Distillery will be giving out samples of their newest products while live music will be performed by a DJ Soul Lorrain.

Soul
Lorain is a multidisciplinary artist, conversant as a DJ, dancer,
model, and actress. Her formal training includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts
from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Having an artistic
career, she has become deeply connected to music and has found herself
performing on large stages and as the DJ in a national commercial for
the MTV Music Awards 2021. Soul loves to musically curate events to
match each party’s unique style!
