Event Details

Currently showing now through March 13, 2023. Visit Cafe Aion at 1235 Pennsylvania Ave in Boulder for this curated exhibit featuring art from Uni Hill Elementary School students.

Fifth grade artists began their final winter at Uni Hill Elementary planning and painting unique Aspen tree compositions. The student artists first explored the Aspen tree in kindergarten when they created the special shapes of Aspen leaves and added the colors of fall and the Colorado blue sky using watercolor paint. In second grade they learned about the Aspen tree trunks and groves before they worked with scissors and paper to create colorful collage art.

It felt meaningful to build on these two experiences (and many other art experiences) and have this community of artists further investigate the Aspen tree. They learned about the unity of a grove of Aspens through their roots and the individual character of each tree as it grows from those roots. They investigated color, texture, value and pattern while learning to mix and layer paint onto their paper with a variety of brushes and tools.

We hope you enjoy the individual interpretations of each artist presented in this exhibit and the roots they share at our special, bilingual school. Please see the binder near the front door for more Aspen tree paintings as there was only space to share 16 paintings in the gallery. We would love to extend a big thank you to Rick Dallago, Cafe Aion, and The Boulder Arts Association for the invitation and inspiration to create this exhibit.
