When it comes to Irish music, there are traditions within traditions, so don’t feel bad if you didn’t know about sean nós (literally, “old style”) singing. Rather, relish the chance to experience something new that is actually very old, by way of this unorthodox biography of legendary voice of Ireland, Joe Heaney. Rather than a parade of historical events with commentary, this approach shows represtative moments along his life’s path, from a small fishing village in County Galway, to streets and pubs in England and New York, for these moments make an artist as much as anything.
