Formerly touring as summerland, Oklahoma-based songwriter, Rigby Summer, weaves an Americana soundscape that reflects the road she’s traveled, from her Kansas City jazz upbringing to the beach pop of her former home in southern California to the red dirt roots of her current home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While her influences range from Mary Chapin Carpenter to The Frames, Sia Furler to Johnny Cash, her sound often draws comparisons to Ingrid Michaelson and Peggy Lee—a little modern, a little old-fashioned, always earnest.
In 2017, after a five-year hiatus from performing music, she founded the Monday@Modella songwriter pop-up and the ALL MUSIC STARTS LOCAL initiative and started sharpening her musical teeth, slowly carving a niche for herself in the Oklahoma scene. Since then, she has had the privilege of sharing the stage with and learning from a myriad of local and touring artists, including Bill Scorzari, Belle Plaine, Blake Berglund, Heather Styka and many more. She was also given honorable mention in the 2017 Woody Guthrie Festival Songwriting Contest and was a semi-finalist in the 2019 Wyoming Singer-Songwriter Contest.
In 2019, she finished production on her first full-length album “Geography” at Naptime Studio in Norman, Oklahoma, with Kyle Reid at the helm. She is currently seeking radio and tour promotion and hopes to release the record in early 2020.
Raised in a log cabin in the woods outside Norman, Oklahoma, Abbigale Dawn lived a whimsical homeschooled childhood listening to Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington and creating worlds and stories in her mind. Eventually, in her teen years, those stories became songs and for nearly eight years, she wrote but never shared her own music. On her mom’s birthday in 2017, she sang My Funny Valentine a cappella at Karaoke night and it was immediately clear: she possesses a voice that the world needs to hear.
Shortly thereafter, she played her first open mic and was quickly offered a paying gig. Within a year, she and her band, aptly named The Makebelieve, had made a splash on the Norman music scene—as well as the Oklahoma scene at-large—with their funky, Indie-Pop vibe. In early 2019, she relocated to Denver where she quickly charming new audiences.
Her dreamy, heartfelt vocals wrap around thoughtful lyrics and carefully constructed melodies, creating a rich vibe evoking wisdom beyond her years. On stage, Abbigale’s humorous stories self-inflicted laughter create an interesting contrast with the sad songs about heartache and coming of age. A down-to-earth performer with a truly unique stage presence, Abbigale Dawn is truly a rising star worth watching in the acoustic Americana scene.
