International Woman’s Day Show!

Featuring…

Kate Farmer:

Raised in the small community of Jamestown, CO, Katie Farmer can’t remember a time she wasn’t immersed in music. She grew up listening to her mother’s clear falsetto harmonizing with Nanci Griffith, Alison Krauss and Bonnie Raitt, instilling in her a deep love of strong female voices and heartfelt songwriting. After much encouragement at a young age, her first performance was at 9 years old where she brought several hippies to tears…and she hasn’t stopped since.

Continuing to combine her love of family and community with music, Katie performs with many local musicians in the area. Writing original songs on her acoustic guitar, her style feels soulful and bluesy with folk and Americana influences. In any genre, her voice alone could make you cry.

Megan Burtt:

“I’m not really a pop singer,” Megan Burtt says. “I just want to make music that’s accessible, while still being true to myself. When I started writing songs, I didn’t know the shapes the fingers were supposed to make on the guitar, so I made up my own chords. I think that’s why I have a unique way of hearing and composing.”
The music on The Bargain is bright and uplifting and, while it does have the inviting sheen of pop, Burtt’s distinctive melodies, poignant, soul-searching vocals and profoundly insightful lyrics deliver a message informed by sorrow and uncertainty. A few years back, Burtt fell prey to a potentially life threatening condition, but her faith in the healing power of music and her determination to become a performing artist brought her out of the shadows.

Bonnie Sims:

Bonnie sang as soon as she could walk and talk, and has been onstage that long. Her father, Mike Cruciger, was a career musician in Texas when she was growing up, and gave Bonnie her first guitar at age 12. She picked up the mandolin at 14 and attended South Plains College where she earned Best Female Vocalist both years she attended and Best Female Instrumentalist her final year. In addition to the accolades and education she received at SPC, with a double major in mandolin and vocals, she also met her husband and musical partner, Taylor Sims, and began songwriting. Her dreams include playing onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, hugging Dolly Parton very tightly and singing everyday, no exceptions.
