Event Details

The New West has become increasingly complicated in the era of “Energy Dominance” and extreme pressure on public lands that belong to each of us – so, where do we fit into the conservation picture? In this presentation, Dave seeks to make a deeper connection between us and our Western lands while discussing how we can contribute as part of the conservation community.

About the Speaker:
Conservation photographer and author Dave Showalter is focused on the American West, where we share a connection to open spaces, wildlife, and rivers that begin as snow falling on the Continental Divide. With a collaborative community approach to visual story-telling, Dave traverses the shortgrass prairie, sagebrush sea and the Colorado River watershed in a presentation that reveals reclusive wildlife, public and private lands conservation and challenges we face in conserving the New West.

Dave’s work takes us inside the lives of Greater Sage-grouse, an icon of the West, down the Colorado River that flows through 40 million of us, and roams prairie with grassland icons American Bison and native prairie species. Boulder is after all geographically situated on the shortgrass prairie of the Great Plains.
