When Sarah (Eva Green), the only female astronaut in the European Space Agency, is chosen to join the crew of a year-long space mission, it creates chaos in her relationship with her 7-year-old daughter, Stella. During training, Sarah tries to reveal zero emotion to show she’s capable of space travel alongside stoic men like her crew mates Anton and the cocky American, Mike (Matt Dillon). ​In an environment teeming with machismo, Sarah must wrestle with the difficult task of pursuing her career and facing the growing internal conflict that just may derail everything. Proxima was shot in various real training facilities of the European Space Agency.
