Walking into Noble Riot is like being transported to another world, a soothing, dimly lit alternate reality where the day’s troubles fade into the background, people are friendly and wine flows freely.
Whether you’re hoping for a private moment alone with your partner or you want to engage with other people and learn something new in the process, Noble Riot is the perfect spot for a romantic date night this spring. Located in Denver’s trendy RiNo district, Noble Riot is part wine bar, part school, part social club.
Founded in spring 2019, Noble Riot is the brainchild of Scott and Nicole Mattson, who also run Nocturne, Denver’s popular jazz supper club. They opened Noble Riot with wine industry veterans Troy Bowen and Joel Kampfe.
With Noble Riot, they hope to introduce new people to wine and make it fun and approachable. Even if you don’t consider yourself a wine connoisseur, that’s OK — and, in fact, a visit to Noble Riot just might open your eyes to the entire world of reds, whites and rosés.
“We believe wine is about pleasure and discovery,” said Scott Mattson. “Pretension should never be a part of the conversation. Guiding someone to that ‘ah-ha’ moment with wine fires us up big time. There are so many great flavors and sensations to be experienced, and Noble Riot was created to celebrate those experiences.”
They’re achieving that goal in several ways. For starters, they offer special “wine school” classes that cover topics like how to blind taste wine and the impact that various types of soil have on wine. They’re also doing flight sessions that focus on one particular winemaker, style or region, as well as wine dinners that bring together food and wine.
Noble Riot also has a monthly membership group called Flight Club, which includes discounted wine classes, flight sessions and a social community for meeting new people. They have various tiers of wine club membership, too.
Of course, if you’re looking for a low-key night out, you can also head to Noble Riot and simply ask one of their expert team members to recommend a glass or a bottle of wine for your date night. The environment is romantic in its own right and, when paired with a glass of delicious wine, it’s an ideal spot for reconnecting with a loved one.
