Winter is officially here—and, with it, the return of skiing and snowboarding at Colorado’s many resorts. Here’s a quick snapshot of what’s new and notable around the state for the 2025-26 winter season. Happy shredding!
Aspen Snowmass
Aspen Snowmass rolls into winter with lift upgrades that are all about smoother laps and better flow. Snowmass debuts a new high-speed six-pack replacing the Elk Camp quad, while the Cirque platter is getting upgraded to a double-capacity T-bar, making high-alpine access quicker and more reliable. Work is also underway on the Ullrhof mid-mountain restaurant rebuild, set to reopen in 2026-27 as the resort’s first all-electric on-mountain dining venue.
Beaver Creek
Beaver Creek elevates the stoke with women’s ski racing joining the men at the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on the famed Birds of Prey course. Expect high-speed action paired with world-class hospitality plus concerts, family activities and festive gatherings from December 6-15—one of the biggest ski racing weeks of the year.
Breckenridge
Breckenridge hosts an entirely new kind of winter celebration with the debut of the Rockstar Energy Open, a three-day, free-to-the-public snowboarding festival combining elite competition, live music and a buzzing fan village. Expect big names—Red Gerard, Nik Baden, Jill Perkins and more—as well as rising riders who earn their spots through the global Video Qualifier Series.
Running alongside Ullr Fest, Breck’s iconic midwinter party, this powerhouse combo means parades, bonfires and the legendary world’s longest shotski—a weekend with all the mountain-town spirit you can handle.
Copper Mountain
The arrival of winter brings high-energy action to Copper as it hosts the Stifel Copper Cup World Cup races, attracting world-class athletes and spectators to the slopes. Behind the scenes, Copper continues its multi-year snowmaking modernization, adding state-of-the-art fan guns and semi-automatic hydrants to support early-season reliability—critical for the many elite ski teams who train here each fall.
Cuchara Mountain Park
A true comeback story: Lift 4 at Cuchara Mountain Park is slated to reopen for the first time in 25 years thanks to revitalization efforts by Panadero Ski Corporation. This marks a new chapter for the Southeast Colorado ski area and a meaningful win for community-driven mountain recreation.
Eldora Mountain
Eldora, the Front Range’s backyard playground and the closest skiing to Boulder, is still celebrating the opening of Caribou Lodge last season. Eldora’s future is continuing to evolve as well, with the Town of Nederland exploring the purchase of the mountain to create a year-round community hub.
Granby Ranch
Families will appreciate Granby Ranch’s new intermediate zone on West Mountain, which adds accessible terrain for progressing skiers. Getting there is easier, too: the new Granby Connect shuttle, a $2 ride from the Amtrak station to the base lodge, offers seamless car-free travel.
Keystone Resort
Keystone is buzzing with some of the most exciting developments in Colorado this winter. The crown jewel is the debut of the Kindred Resort, a luxury, slopeside, ski-in/ski-out hotel and residence complex opening in River Run Village. Guests can expect a year-round heated pool, cocktail service, four new dining concepts, a high-end spa, valet services and a new headquarters for the Keystone Ski & Ride School, plus on-site gear rentals and retail.
New events also bring fresh energy to the slopes, starting with Snow Fort After Dark, a nighttime twist on the mountaintop snow fort with music and starry-sky fun on select evenings (on Dec. 27, Jan. 31, March 14, and March 28). The resort is also debuting the BOEC Day of Inclusion (Dec. 19-20), as Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center celebrates 50 years of adaptive snowsports, and launching the first-ever Keystone Military Winter Games (Feb. 7-8), bringing service members and veterans together for friendly competition.
Loveland Ski Area
Loveland is dialed in on beginner accessibility this season. A new fixed-grip triple chair replaces Lift 7, and the learning area has been reshaped for smoother terrain flow, improved snow conditions and a more welcoming zone for first-timers and families.
Monarch Mountain
Monarch is having a milestone winter with the massive No Name Basin expansion, a long-awaited project that adds 377 acres of intermediate and advanced terrain—a full 50 percent increase in skiable acreage. Ten new runs spill over both sides of the Continental Divide, all served by a brand-new SkyTrac triple chairlift.
Purgatory Resort
Purgatory Resort celebrates its 60th anniversary with a hefty list of upgrades: expanded snowmaking, improved Wi-Fi, refreshed rentals and dining, plus a calendar full of celebratory events. All in, the resort is making $6 million worth of capital improvements, including a new fixed-grip triple chair, five new trails, a snowcat purchase and more on-mountain glading.
Silverton Mountain
Silverton doubles down on its rugged reputation with expanded six-run heli days and enhanced private heli-skiing options. These offerings complement its famously adventurous, experts-only lift-served terrain—still one of the most unique ski experiences in North America.
Steamboat
Ski Town U.S.A. is embracing its Olympic pedigree with two new guest experiences at Steamboat Ski Resort: Ski with an Olympian, a full day on the mountain alongside a Steamboat Olympian, and Dinner with an Olympian at the newly reimagined Crooked Antler restaurant. For out-of-town guests, travel is getting easier, too, thanks to expanded United Airlines flights into Steamboat Springs, making winter getaways smoother than ever.
Sunlight Mountain Resort
Big changes are happening at Sunlight Mountain Resort, which unveils the largest capital project in the resort’s long history. Two new chairlifts—Primo and Segundo—modernize uphill capacity across the mountain. Passholders also score a true locals’ perk: 8:30 a.m. early access on powder days, perfect for snagging those untouched morning turns.
Telluride
Telluride keeps its long-term mountain modernization rolling with improvements to Lifts 5 and 12 and extensive snowmaking upgrades to ensure dependable early-season coverage. It’s all part of a multi-year investment in creating a smoother, more consistent ski experience at one of Colorado’s most iconic high-alpine resorts.
Winter Park Resort
Winter Park lights up the season with a huge anniversary: Mary Jane turns 50. Expect a full-on birthday bash on January 10, 2026, complete with the character and charm that long-time Mary Jane loyalists know and love. The Winter Park Express Ski Train is also returning for its second season of expanded service, with special holiday runs in December and regular four-day-a-week service launching January 8—one of Colorado’s most scenic and effortless ways to hit the slopes.
Vail Mountain
Big changes are happening at Vail, starting with a $4 million upgrade to the Golden Peak base area and the arrival of Avanti Vail, a new culinary collective inspired by European markets and food truck roundups. Vail is also leaning into music and culture this season, hosting three signature headline acts, on-mountain pop-ups and music-driven après events all season long—turning the classic Vail experience into a full sensory celebration.
The Eagle County Airport also now offers direct flights from all seven major United hubs—Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco and Washington—unlocking more accessibility for destination travelers.
