The spa is not just a luxurious add-on for indulgent travelers. It’s an important part of health and wellness for everyone.
In Boulder County, where health is paramount, you can find some world-class spas with the traditional treatments you might expect: a massage, a facial, a body scrub. But this is Boulder, after all. So we have to do things a little differently, too.
Here are nine unique spa treatments to add to your healthy experience in Boulder.
1. Get a cannabis massage.
If you’re looking for a new way to indulge in cannabis in Boulder, head to the spa. There are many health benefits of cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive component of cannabis that’s in many massage oils and lotions. Studies link CBD to pain relief and reduced inflammation. Other research has found it can help dry skin, acne and eczema, making it a good ingredient to add to your facial.
Other spa treatments center around hemp, the cousin of cannabis that also boasts some proven health claims.

2. Get a “table shower.”
This is no ordinary shower. For this one, you get to lie down. And the water is typically really, really cold. And then nice and warm. And then cold. And then warm. That’s to stimulate the circulation. It’s supposedly great for your health.
Try a 10-minute table shower, or a Vichy shower, at the On Broadway Salon and Spa included with all spa treatments, or you can even book a separate shower all by itself. On Broadway’s Vichy shower is a “circulating massage” from five overhead shower heads.
3. Try a platelet-rich plasma treatment.
You’ll need to visit a medi-spa for this one. It’s a three-step medical treatment, and it involves blood.
But it is said to help with hair loss
In platelet-rich plasma treatments, or PRP for short, your blood is drawn, processed and then injected back into your body. The goal: to promote tissue regeneration, healing and collagen growth. It claims to be able to promote collagen growth, smoothing out the skin (and wrinkles). For hair loss, the blood is microneedled back into the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles, promoting hair growth.
Find PRP at the Sunflower Spa in Longmont. You can also get it done at Boulder Plastic Surgery.
4. Bring your vagina to the spa.
If you want to enhance your sexual responsiveness and improve overall vaginal health, you can get PRP for your genitals. The premise is the same: Your blood is taken, processed and then strategically injected into the vagina (the upper wall of and the clitoris, to be exact). Sunflower Spa, which offers this treatment, claims it will trigger stem cell growth and tissue rejuvenation. It may even help decrease urine leaking and increase lubrication, the spa says.
You’ll probably need a few sessions.
You can use PRP to treat erectile dysfunction in men, too. The plasma is injected into the penis, stimulating new tissue and improving erections.
Oh, and the answer to the question we’ve all been wondering: Supposedly it doesn’t hurt a bit.
5. Wear an LED mask.
This treatment might look pretty crazy, but it’s supposed to be great for your skin. Slip into a glowing LED mask to increase collagen and restore cell function. Wear it for 30 minutes after a facial or on its own. The Sunflower Spa carries these unique masks.
6. Rub your feet.
We stand on them all day, so our feet need love, too. Head to Heavenly Embrace for a spa treatment for your feet. It’s more than just a foot massage, though. The spa offers therapeutic reflexology, whereby certain points on the feet are stimulated. These points are said to relate to different parts of the body. So by rubbing your feet, you might relieve a headache, improve digestion, enhance circulation and more. Reflexology is considered a whole-body treatment.
7. Bathe your tootsies, too.
More foot care, please. Check out the Iron Detox Foot Bath at Blue Skies Massage. This unique bath is also for the entire body. As Blue Skies explains, “Positive and negative currents stimulate your lymphatic system so harmful stress and environmental toxins get released through your feet’s pores, visible in your foot bath’s water.” The treatment claims it can help with insomnia, water retention, fatigue and fibromyalgia.
8. Kiss gold.
Make your kiss worth a million bucks with the 24K Gold Collagen Restoring Lip Mask, also available at Blue Skies Massage. In Colorado, the dry weather can really mess up our skin and make our lips cracked and chapped. This moisturizing mask is designed to soften, sooth, moisturize and condition your pucker, diminishing lines and dryness. The mouth mask is made with real gold, which is supposed to help infuse the Elasin and Acetyl tyrosine ingredients.
9. Try an acupuncture face lift.
If you want a boost but don’t want to go all the way with a face lift, try acupuncture on your face. The Corca Center for Sleep and Radiant Health offers Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation, which is said to help you look and feel better. In addition to the pain-free little pokes, the treatment will nurture you with hot towels, face masks and tuning forks. Add to that a oil foot massage and bodywork. The Corca Center says you can expect fewer wrinkles and a gentle, natural lift. The treatment is supposed to improve collagen and elastin production, increase muscle tone, decrease sagging, wrinkles, puffiness and under-eye bags, increase blood circulation and more.
